Pagespeed Insights Checker

About this tool

PageSpeed Insights (PSI) is an , developed by Google, for the web. Its main purpose is to analyze the content of a webpage and generate a report on the performance of that specific webpage on mobile & desktop devices.

PageSpeed Insights by Helpify is based on the same API and, thus, provides the exact same service. Our version of PageSpeed Insights doesn't have the ability to test mobile performance of a webpage, but we hope to develop it sooner rather than later.

The report and statistics generated by the provides scores, suggestions, and recommendations on how to improve the performance of a webpage, thanks to Google. Not only this, PSI provides two additional types of analysis, lab data & field data. Check out This Documentation by google for further details on the two.

PSI Performance Score

The very first thing to notice once the PSI has returned a list of audits is the Performance Score. This summarizes the page's performance on a scale of 1 - 100. PageSpeed Insights uses Lighthouse to collect & analyze the webpage and generate this score. Following are the recommendations from google:

  • A score that's above 90 ( > 90 ) is considered great.
  • A score of 50 - 90 tells that improvement is required.
  • A score that's less than 50 ( < 50 ) is considered very poor.

Real-World Field Data

PageSpeed Insights has the ability to calculate real-world data, also known as field data, from for the webpage. When given a URL, the PSI tool looks it up in the CrUX database and if possible, some additional attributes are calculated, these are named below:

  • is an important, user-centric, performance-qualifying metric that measures the user-perceived load speed of a webpage. It marks the first step in the whole page-load time period at which the user sees anything other than the blank white screen. Read more about First Contentful Paint here

  • is a metric for measuring load responsiveness as it reports the user experience whilst interacting with an unresponsive or stuck webpage. Read more about First Input Delay here
